The course is comprised of eight (8) modules that covers various topics related to head start.

    1. History and Foundations of Practice
    2. Working with Families in Need
    3. An Empowerment Based Approach to Family Engagement and Relationship Building
    4. Case Management: Begin with the end in Mind
    5. Family Partnership Agreements
    6. Goal Setting and Documentation
    7. Safety First in Home Visiting
    8. Taking Good Care

An overview of the History of Head Start, along with key concepts and practice behaviors associated with Family Service work.


In this module, we will learn about the intersectionality of Stress, Poverty, Scarcity, and Brain Development, as well as contrasting theories of Poverty.


An overview of the Parent Family and Community Engagement Framework, with focus on elements of positive, goal oriented, empowering relationships. We will review the use of a strengths based approach and introduce the OARS technique and listening skills. This module incorporates material from the Early Childhood Learning and Knowledge Center.


In this unit we will learn about emotional  self management and emotional intelligence. We will revisit the impact of stress and the importance of boundaries, as well as identify resources for self care.
